The story

Slow Morning Coffee Co. was founded in 2026 by Matt Rewerts, an elementary physical education teacher in Waverly, Iowa, with a simple idea: discovering great coffee should feel personal.

Matt has always enjoyed finding independent roasters, trying coffees he has never had before, and learning the stories behind the people and places that make them. What started as curiosity quickly became the foundation for Slow Morning.

The goal is not just to send out coffee. It is to help people discover something worth remembering.

That might mean finding a new favorite roast. It might mean learning about a small family-run company, a roaster supporting children’s programs, a business inspired by a child with autism, or a company giving back through causes like animal rescue and other community-focused work.

Those stories matter to Matt.

When choosing roasters for Slow Morning, he is especially drawn to businesses that have a purpose beyond the bag — companies that care about people, animals, their communities, or the producers behind the coffee. Great coffee comes first, but when there is a meaningful story behind it too, that is the kind of roaster Matt wants people to know about.

That is what makes discovery such a big part of Slow Morning.

Instead of always reaching for the same familiar coffee, Slow Morning gives people a chance to try independent roasters they may never have come across otherwise, learn a little about what makes them different, and decide for themselves what they love.

Matt does not roast the coffee himself. His role is to find roasters worth discovering, choose coffees that are interesting to try, and bring them together in a way that feels approachable and enjoyable.

Every Slow Morning box is personally curated and packed by Matt, himself, in Waverly.

Because Slow Morning is still a small business, he is also the person behind nearly every part of it — working with roasters, managing inventory, building the website, creating content, packing orders, answering messages, and planning what comes next, all while teaching full-time.

At its core, Slow Morning is about great coffee, good stories, and the excitement of discovering something new.

A new roaster.
A new favorite.
A reason to slow down and enjoy a cup of coffee.
